Description
The Thinker statue at Randolph Rose Collection, a lost-wax bronze reproduction, echoes the work of French sculptor Auguste Rodin. This rendition pays homage to Rodin’s iconic creation, capturing its essence and historical significance. His original was conceived in 1880 and devised to adorn the top of The Gates of Hell. “The Thinker” was originally supposed to depict Dante leaning forward to observe the circles of Hell, pondering on his work ‘The Divine Comedy’. However, Rodin exhibited the The Thinker statue independently of The Gates in 1889 and called it The Thinker.
